Deep Tissue Massage
Definition
A massage technique used in many different forms of
massage (Rolfing, Trigger point therapy, Hellerwork, etc.) Slow strokes
or holds with finger or some other body part (elbows, knees, etc.)
which applies deep pressure
on areas of the body suffering from chronic muscle tension. Also used
on areas that simply ache or feel contracted. Deep tissue massage is
especially effective with areas of scar tissue or stuck fascia. Caution
needs to be used not to damage tissue or cause tissues to loss their
integrity by ironing them too thin. I use a gentle form of deep
tissue which gets in deep, helps the muscles to release, but is safe to
the muscles wholeness.
