Trigger Point Myotherapy
Definition
Trigger Point Myotherapy, developed by Bonnie Prudden, is a hands-on therapy
using thumbs, fingers, or elbows on specific points in tight muscles
that cause local and/or radiating pain. It is based on Dr. Janet Travell's research on Trigger
Point and Trigger Point Injection Therapy (TPIT). Bonnie Prudden created
this manual therapy to work on these trigger points without injections,
so they could be released and therefore help to relieve pain.
Trigger Point Myotherapy, uses firm
pressure applied to a Trigger Point and
is usually followed by massage and passive stretching.
