Lymphatic Congestion
Definition
The lymphatic system is part of our immune system. There are over
six hundred lymph nodes to be found in our bodies. When we are healthy,
our lymph nodes are about the size of an almond. However, when we get
sick from a cold or flu, our lymph nodes ramp up like a factory
producing antibodies that fight the virus. If the virus or toxic
load is severe, our lymph nodes grow and become painful. The lymph
system is a vital part of our bodies ability to fight disease.
Lymphatic congestion or stagnation is a serious problem. For many cancer
patients,
lymphedema can be a side
effect of any surgery in which the lymph nodes are removed or of
radiation administered in the area of the lymph nodes.
