TMJ (Temporomandibular joint)
Definition
Acute or chronic inflammation of the Temporomandibular joint,
which connects the mandible to the skull. Often the
symptoms will involve more than one of the many
components of the TMJ, including:
muscles, nerves, tendons, ligaments, bones, connective tissue, and teeth. Ear pain can
also be associated with TMJ. Because the disorder
transcends the boundaries between several health-care
disciplines — in particular, dentistry, neurology, physical therapy, and massage therapy — there
are a variety of treatment approaches. Over 85
percentage of my patients with TMJ experience relief of
symptoms without the need for surgery.
